Weber 1361001 22.5-Inch One-Touch Platinum Charcoal Grill Review

Weber 1361001 22.5 inch One-Touch Platinum Charcoal GrillI absolutely love the stability of the footing design on the Weber Platinum. Originally I was gonna buy a One Touch Gold, but the extra height, extra workspace and stability of this one made it a winner. Originally we were just going to use this on weekends.... We use it all the time now instead of our gas grill. The charcoal experience and smell always brings up fond "memories past" of charcoal grilling. The smell brings everyone back to a good place. When our guests/relatives taste the food, they are really blown away. Without a doubt, get the charcoal chimney. It provides a quicker and cleaner start than user lighter fluid. Your Kettles are excellent Weber. We are converted......

Weber 7403 Char-Basket Charcoal Briquet Holders Review

Weber 7403 Char-Basket Charcoal Briquet HoldersAs I'm sure is the case with most people, I bought these for indirect cooking -- you have great control of placement of briquettes when you're doing indirect cooking. When you're doing a turkey, you want to pile in the coals but insure they stay to the sides. For this, they work great.

For me, the surprising part is what a great aid they are for direct cooking.By placing them next to each other, you can intensify the heat source and actually raise (as a result of stacking up the briquettes in these) the level of heat source closer to the grill.A great addition when you have something you want to sear at the start of the grilling process.

Masterbuilt 10040106 Kingsford 18-1/2-Inch Kettle Grill Review

Masterbuilt 10040106 Kingsford 18-1/2 inch Kettle GrillI was interested in going from propane to charcoal but I wanted the convienance of an ash catcher. Of course Weber grills get the most ink, but I was bothered by how much they increased the price for an ash catcher (and it really is a simple, low-cost, yet useful addition) and that I didn't know the quality of a Weber anymore since they changed where they are manufactured.

So I went for this grill and have been very pleased. There is some assembly and it took my wife (who is very handy) and I over an hour. Once it is set-up it works great. Easy to wheel, ash catcher works great, the handle in my experience on the top has never gotten hot, and it is the same material to resist weathering as the Webers. The size is ok for 2-4 people. After that you will need a bigger grill or cook in a few shifts.

Since I have never had a Weber I can't compare but I have now used it a half dozen times, with excellent results every time. Be sure to get a coal chimney starter, they are fantastic, especially in windy weather. I would recommend this one Weber 87886 Chimney Starter

Weber 781001 26.75-Inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill Review

Weber 781001 26.75 inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal GrillAt least when it comes to grilling! After months of anxious waiting, I received my "new" 26 inch Weber grill from Amazon a few weeks ago.I say "new" because this is not Weber's first 26 inch grill. They previously had manufactured a 26 inch model that has long since been discontinued.

After having grilled on a 22 inch One Touch Gold and a Performer for years, I was anxious to have more charcoal grilling space.Although I have slobbered over the Ranch Kettle, I always felt that it was a little too much.Of course, I was also never able to convince my wife that I needed one.

The 26 inch kettle took about 20 minutes to assemble. The instructions were written in the international language of "pictures" and are very straightforward. The 26 inch is in all practical purposes a larger 22 inch grill. The wheels, ash catcher, handles, and charcoal baskets are all standard size. The only difference is the larger kettle. When you compare the kettle of a 26 inch to a 22 (see the images above), it might not appear to be that much of a difference.I believe that it is, as the 26 boasts an additional 145 square inches of cooking space. When you are trying to grill multiple things at the same time, that difference means not having to fire up a second grill.

The size of the 26 allows for more range in temperature zones for direct grilling.Internally, like on the 22, there is 5 inches between the main grate and the charcoal grate. The lid holder nicely holds the lid out of the way.My old Performer did not do that very well.I am thankful this model does.I do wish there was a hook to hang the main grate from. You can invert the grate and use the handles to hang it over the lip of the kettle, but I would prefer an actual hook.

I have cooked both direct and indirect on this new beast and I am happy with the results. The one learning curve I am tackling is charcoal usage.Figure about one and a half times more charcoal than you would typically use on the 22.In fact, if you can fit everything on the 26 versus firing up two 22 inch kettles, you are using less charcoal overall.Nice.

If you do a lot of grilling for a lot of people or you grill a lot of different things for a few people, this is a great grill. If you are only an occasional griller, I would recommend the 22.However, if you understand how precious grill real estate when you craft your evening's dinner, the 26 will not let you down. It's a Weber, what more can I say?Happy Grilling!

Char-Griller 1224 Smokin Pro 830 Square Inch Charcoal Grill with Side Fire Box Review

Char-Griller 1224 Smokin Pro 830 Square Inch Charcoal Grill with Side Fire BoxI agree entirely with the two other reviewers. This is a great grill, but I would like to add some additional comments.I have rated this only 4 stars because of some assembly issues (see below) and because it is not quite as good as a dedicated smoker (such as the Brinkmann Vertical Smoker). However, if you want to be able to both smoke and grill, or if you are not sure you want a smoker (like me) then the Char Griller Smokin Pro with Side Fire Box is for you.

Now that I tried Smoking, I am a convert. It does take longer than grilling, but this slow cooking process results in more flavor and more juicy meat. The intensity of the smoke flavor is increased by using more wood and reduced by using more charcoal. For instance, an all-charcoal smoke will result in subtle, but pleasant smoke flavor.I find it very easy to control the temperature of the Smokin Pro grill when smoking - I add more charcoal or adjust the vents only once per hour.Otherwise, it basically runs itself.Cleanup is easy because the firebox has an ash pan.Furthermore, since smoking is done at lower heat, there is no grease spatter in the cooking chamber.I find it helpful to place a pan directly under the meat to catch all the grease.

ASSEMBLY ISSUES: Assuming that you buy both the Smokin Pro grill and the Side Fire Box, do NOT follow the instructions to first assemble the grill, and then add the fire box.The problem is that installation of the fire box requires punching out a knock-out panel on the side of the grill lower half.Unfortunately, the knock-out panel may not be easy to remove, and this step then will require considerable hammering. This step will be very difficult to do if the grill is already assembled!

INSTEAD, as the first step of assembly, take the lower half of the grill firebox and place it on end with the knock-out panel on top, and the other side on hard ground.Firmly wedge a 2x4 piece of wood between the two sides. This will give firm support to the end of the grill with the knock-out panel. It will help to place the support close to the site of the hammering. Now, follow the firebox assembly instructions to punch out the panel with a hammer and a screwdriver.Use of the 2x4 will prevent damage to the side of the grill body due to hammering. After removing the panel, proceed normally with the assembly of the grill, and finally attachment of the fire box as directed in the instructions.

Meco Stand Up 4100 Square Utility Charcoal Grill, Red Review

Meco Stand Up 4100 Square Utility Charcoal Grill, RedThis is the one for anything except rotisserre.

It has a series of adjustable vents accros the front and the back, and a circular adjustable vent on top. This allows for very precise air-flow contol.
The grill adjusts to 3 levels, four if you're inventive. After a couple of uses it's virtually air-tight with all vents closed, so you can cool down an aggressive fire in a heartbeat.

I give it 4 stars reserving the 5th for it's Meco cousins which are of the same funtional design, but more pricey due to retractable wooden tables on one or both sides and a wooden shelf down below. But they are all superb as grilling machines.

Enjoy!

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Sportsman's Charcoal Grill Review

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Sportsman's Charcoal GrillI ordered this heavy (33 pounds) little jewel from Amazon a week ago, got it much earlier than expected and tried it out the day I got it.I now have 4 grills: An "oil barrel" type that is perfect for when the family tribe shows up, 2 Weber kettle types in different sizes for weekend entertaining and now the Lodge.

I've had several cast aluminum discount store hibachi's over the years and after the wooden handles fall off, the legs become impossible to tighten and then the "adjustable" supports for the grill crack.I don't see that happening with this hibachi.

Let the grill pre-heat, spray it with PAM and then enjoy the meal. The heat is even, cooking times may be a bit faster than you think, but the dish will be excellent.

HOWEVER!If one is cooking on a wooden deck, as I do, invest in some bricks or concrete pavers to go under the feet.Like all cast iron, this sucker retains heat and you don't want to burn your house down while entertaining guests.

Look for the book "The Honerable Hibachi" by Kathryn Popper. An excellent guide/recipe book.

I wonder if this would be safe to use in a large fireplace in winter months.Any ideas?

I'm thinking about getting another Lodge and then finding a home for the smaller Weber.

Get one and then enjoy your hibachi.

Update Feb 26, 2006:

I've now had the Lodge Hibachi for 4 months and typically use it several times a week. Clean-up is even easier than it was when new.Remember to put a little olive oil or PAM on the grids first and the seasoning improves. In cold, rainy weather, the hibachi fits and cooks nicely in my fireplace (thanks, Ukiechris!), but I crack a window when I do that.

Although quite heavy, it's a great picnic grill and will easily cook chicken, steaks or burgers for 4 people. My Webers must think I don't love them anymore. I do, but the Lodge is perfect for 1-4 people and chicken cooked on the hibachi has a flavor my kettle or barrel grills just can't match.

Besides cooking for that tribal gathering, I'll let you know if I find something the Lodge can't do.

Product Description:
Made with durable, even-heating cast iron, this rugged, charcoal, hibachi-style grill works great for picnics, tailgating, car camping, or anywhere a self-contained outdoor cooking source is needed. The unit's cooking grate is also made of cast iron--a treasured cooking material that heats slowly yet retains its heat for long periods of time, making it far more efficient than aluminum or steel grates. The grill's cooking surface measures 17-1/4 by 9 inches and comes seasoned and ready to use. Easily temper the cooking speed of food by rotating the grate away from the heat source. The grill has two adjustable heights, along with a draft door that regulates the heat--so in addition to frying or grilling, the unit can warm a pot of coffee or chili. Coals are accessible behind a flip-down door. Other convenient features include four steady legs, a useful carrying handle, and a simple-to-clean design--just hand wash with a stiff brush and hot water. The Sportsman's charcoal grill measures 19 by 10-1/4 by 8-1/4 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill Review

Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal GrillThis is the third little Weber I've had in the past 20 years - I've never worn one out; the first two were stolen!I like the locking handle on the new model. One great feature of these grills is that when you are donecooking, you can close all the vents and the fire will go out in about15-20 minutes, saving whatever's left of your charcoal for the next time. With the handle locked, it won't spill in the back of your pickup on theway home.
It really does do a great job of cooking, as good as the largerWebers, just for a smaller crowd. We had a Mulberry tree trimmed in ouryard and I saved all the chipped up wood to use for smoke flavoring.Youstill need a charcoal fire for heat; just throw in a handful of chipsbefore you put the meat & corn on the cob in and close the top ventdown to make it smoke.Mmmmm, Mmmmm!
You can eat like a gourmet anywhereyou tote this to!Just add a cooler full of longnecks.....

Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, Black Review

Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, BlackWhile I love my Genesis S-320, I decided I wanted to get in to charcoal grilling when time allows. Without question, I was going to buy a Weber, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the One-Touch Gold, One-Touch Platinum (knowing I'd still buy accessories for both) or the Performer.

What really sold me was the propane ignition and the cart. Having this much workspace outside is invaluable, and I just don't trust larger items like turkey to the tables on the One-Touch Platinum or the Weber 7413 Work Table that I would have got for the Gold. And when you compare the price of the Platinum to the Performer the only reason not to get the Performer is if you're completely uninterested in the propane ignition.

Ordering from Amazon was the usual experience. With Prime, my Performer was on my porch two days after I ordered it via UPS. Despite being nearly 100 pounds, this doesn't need to go through one of the local logistics companies that are usually used with big items, so that was a huge plus in my book.

After inspecting the box for damage, the first thing I looked for was where the Performer was made. As I thought (and in spite of what some have said on different grilling forums) it clearly says "Designed and engineered in the USA" right above "Made in the USA". So, yes, the Performer is (as of April 2010, when Amazon shows this model number as "new") made in the United States.

This being my third Weber grill, I didn't expect the pieces to be pristine, and wasn't shocked to see that there were a few minor paint scrapes, despite the box showing absolutely zero evidence of being mishandled. This is the same experience as when I bought my first Genesis at a local store, and my next Genesis, and... Basically, if you're expecting every piece of a Weber grill to be scratch-free out of the box, you're going to be disappointed, so be prepared.

Assembly was pretty straightforward. As they often are, the Weber manual was easy to follow and well illustrated. All you need to put this together is a hammer (for the wheels), a Phillips screwdriver, and a 3/8" wrench. I put it together by myself in about 30 minutes with no problems at all. I was mildly amused (and at the same time, a bit annoyed) that the bottom of the kettle has post holes for legs. The only thing that's different on the kettle between the Performer and One-Touch Gold is two metal flaps that let you mount it to the cart.

The Performer can use the "fat green" propane canisters that you usually see on camping equipment, as well as the type of canisters you'd usually use with a torch kit. I was quite disappointed to discover that the redesigned Performer still uses the old red-button "spark-plug" ignition, instead of the electric battery-based ignition used on all of their other grills.

That brings me to the loss of a star. There are a few other design problems with the Performer that are disappointing. The first, which I haven't seen depicted in any picture of this item here or on Weber's site, is that the propane tank hangs down below the control panel. It looks kind of chintzy, and frankly, at this price, it shouldn't. The other design annoyance is with the holder for the top of the kettle. It's almost all metal, and it's quite rough. The first time you use it, you're going to put some nice silver scratches on your black lid. I'm experimenting with high-temp silicone on the rough edges, to see if that solves the problem.

Another warning: At the time of this review, Weber's site has a mix of pictures for the current Performer. Some depict the lid with a small, removable thermometer on the handle. Some (correctly) depict the more Genesis-like thermometer mounted between the handle and edge of the lid. Additionally, Amazon's picture depicts the Thermoset surface as black, it's really more of a grey color.

All things being equal, it's a very nice grill. You get the sturdy cart, One-Touch cleaning system with ash catcher, hinged cooking grate, Char-Basket holders, gas ignition, and a place to keep your charcoal.

Is it a crazy-good value? Well... that's hard to say. If you start off with a One-Touch Silver or Gold and start adding accessories, the price isn't unreasonable. If anything, it's like buying most of your accessories in one box. But if you don't care a lot about the ignition or big cart, you're probably much better off getting a One-Touch.

Weber 7453 Premium Kettle Cover, Fits 22.5-Inch Charcoal Grills Review

Weber 7453 Premium Kettle Cover, Fits 22.5 inch Charcoal GrillsThe cover works fine. It's a grill cover, so there's not a whole lot of innovation to be had. I however live in an area with wind storms, so I woke up one morning after a storm to find my grill naked, the cover nowhere to be found. I imagine it's somewhere in the Puget sound wedged in an Orca's blowhole. Some simple elastic on the bottom or grommet holes for bungees would have saved a whale.

Char-Griller 2137 Outlaw 1038 Square Inch Charcoal Grill / Smoker Review

Char-Griller 2137 Outlaw 1038 Square Inch Charcoal Grill / SmokerUnless you want a several hundred pound heavy duty smoker/griller, or a fixed unit, this is the one. I have seen and used dozens of grills and smokers, and at this price, this unit, (with what I consider the mandatory side fire box) beats them all hands down. Where to start? Approaching the unit, the top half lifts up, revealing the entire cooking grid. There's also the slow cook, warming grid that folds back into the top lid when lifted up. It is also easily removable when cooking larger items, say beer can chicken? Then there's my favorite, the original non-stick surface, a cast iron cooking grid-no cheap steel grate. This rocks! I can even put fish on this thing and the fish comes right up, NO STICKING! (Hey! Don't move your food) Cleaning is wicked easy- consists of burning off anything left when you're done, then brushing with a brass brush and wiping down with a crisco covered paper towel-it's SO easy. Already fair offset cooking because it's so big, the side fire box turns this into an honest-to-goodness smoker that will have your neighbours drooling with envy when you throw those four racks of ribs on it for 3-4 hours and have smoke infusing them and the rest of the neighbourhood. The side and front racks give you a ready place to put plates and tools, the inlet and outlet airflows are adjustable, and the temperature probe in the lid shows actual temperature, not just low/med/high. I cannot say enough good things about this grill.

Cons are the usual charcoal caveats, the side next to the side-fire box is hotter and when cooking larger feasts items need to be moved around so all items are equally cooked - gives you a chance to show off for your guests! The side fire box is a little small for regular logs, so I end up trimming logs when using them. The construction is admittedly light but more than acceptable given the price. Overall, this is an excellent grill that cooks big or small, long or short, cleans easily, and of course has that awesome charcoal flavor. I've had this grill for 3 years and you'll never get anything better for the price. It's a no-brainer. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Weber 22.5-Inch One-Touch Gold Kettle Grill Review

Weber 22.5 inch One-Touch Gold Kettle GrillAfter using a 22 1/2 inch Weber for 12-13 years and never paying any attention to taking care of it, I decided to get the new One-Touch with the bucket ash catcher--the "Gold" model.I also went with the blue color for an extra ten bucks.

There is nothing wrong with the Silver model but the addition of the enclosed bucket-type ash catcher is enough of an improvement to make the Gold model the top choice. As much as I loved my old Weber, I always had ashes scattered around on the patio after using it.That open pan-type ash catcher could be mighty messy, especially in the wind. It's not a concern with the One-Touch Gold.

It's easy to love a Weber grill. The design is a classic and it has proven itself for around 50 years. The grill is incredibly versatile. I only rarely use my big smoker since it's pretty simple to slow cook roasts, ribs and briskets on the Weber. And it's ideal for direct grilling of steaks, burgers, sausages and vegetables.

The one accessory you should get is the Weber chimney starter.Take it from me, you won't regret it at all.I've owned three or four other chimney starters and ended up going back to charcoal lighter because none of them ever worked well enough to reliably get a fire going.Well, the Weber works and it saves the expense of the lighter fluid and the time it takes to burn off the odor and taste.

If you're on a budget, the Silver model will work just as well as the Gold.If you're willing to spend extra for more convenience, the Gold One Touch is the way to go.The blue one looks nice too.

Weber One Touch Silver Kettle Grill Review

Weber One Touch Silver Kettle GrillI love this grill. This is one of my four weber kettle grills I own.
Assembly is a snap. The only tool you'll need is a hammer to tap the wheel lugs on.In 15 minutes you can be lighting your coal.
The beauty of this grill is the kettle design which maximizes heat retention and allows the grill to act like an oven with the top on.I've cooked whole chickens, cabbage, bread, and pizza using this method. The top also has a hook on it so you can hang it from the side of the grill while you add sauce or tend to what you're cooking.
My only complaint about this is its size. Its great for direct cooking steaks, chops, etc.But to do some more long term smoking of ribs, whole chickens, its a little small because the coals get too close to the sides of the food and some parts might get scorched. If you do a lot of slow, indirect cooked foods, go for the 22 1/2 inch weber kettle grill.

Bayou Classic Fold and Go Portable Grill Review

Bayou Classic Fold and Go Portable GrillAround $20?are you kidding me?
This grill is perfect and the surface area is exactly what I needed.

I had one of those 12 inch diameter portables and always lamented that I couldn't cook enough at one time.

So I wanted to find one with a nice surface area.
This has 266 sq inches of it for around $20.
Works great and I notice the weber portable for twice as much has only 165 sq inches.

Do yourself a favor, but this baby that folds down like a laptop when you are done.

Also, buy a weber chimney starter, you won't believe how hot your your coals get in no time and with no need for lighter fluid and how much faster food cooks on this grill...(you did take my advice and purchased it, didn't you?)

Totally recommended stove, perfect for camping.

Char-Griller 2123 Wrangler 640 Square Inch Charcoal Grill / Smoker Review

Char-Griller 2123 Wrangler 640 Square Inch Charcoal Grill / SmokerAs an avid charcoal BBQer, I was looking to replace my 20 year old Ball-B-Q which I had painstakingly preserved until the bottom had rusted out, so it was time to check out what the market had to offer. I was used to an adjustable height cooking grill and found that most charcoal grills today do not offer this feature. In my mind it's a necessity for those who grill for two or less, otherwise you waste a lot of charcoal and pollute that much more.

So Char-Griller seemed to have all the feature I wanted, especiallythe airtight hood which has the advantage of snuffing out the coals when you're done. That makes it possible to reuse the coals a second time. Plus the reviews here for other Char-Griller models were positively glowing, so I ordered one blind without seeing it in person.

The grill was straightforward enough to build, but there was some confusion about whether or not the cast iron grates were treated at the factory in China. It turns out they were, but you still have to prime the entire inside of the grill with cooking oil. It then needs to burned off for something ridiculous like two hours before you use it the first time.

The warming rack warped pretty noticeably after this first burn off, and it is clear from the smoke leaking out of the sides and back that the airtight flanged hood is not quite as advertised.

Instead of raising or lowering the cast iron cooking grates, this model has you lift the coal grate up closer to the food. The handles have notches on them that rest on tabs inside the grill body. Fine in theory, clunky in practice...also the handles are metal and get quite hot...mitts are essential.

Dumping the ashes is another pain...you have to remove the 3-piece cast iron grates and then lift the ash pan out using the same handles that adjust the height. Unfortunately, those handles do not lock onto the ash pan, so it's difficult to maneuver it.

I'm not sure if it's because the manufacturer skimped on the gauge of the metal but the grill body bows inward and the hood outward on the sides which creates a 1/4" gap on each side. That lets in a lot of air which makes controlling the cooking temperature difficult. This unit also has a chimney which for some reason is installed from the inside of the hood. That makes it possible for water to leak into the hood and onto the cast iron grills. You will need a cover if you plan to leave this one outside.

Very disappointed with this one, especially since most reviews for similar models were so positive. I'm not sure how long Char-Griller has been manufacturing offshore, but maybe that has something to do with it. Contacted customer service about these issues but their response was indifferent. And of course, once you've used it...you can't return it.

UPDATE 09/2006: Was able to seal leaks and hood with high heat silicone seal caulking. This is the same stuff they use to make those new silicone ustensils and bakewares. However, surface rust has appeared on the hood after 3 months outside. Paint quality seems to be poor as well. Seriously consider getting the cover.

Char-Griller 1515 Patio Pro Model Grill Review

Char-Griller 1515 Patio Pro Model GrillI love to BBQ and I have had my 22 ½" Weber Charcoal grill for the last 5 years. The issue was for day to day grilling when I did not have any guest over, the Weber was just a waste of charcoal and time for light cooking.

I wanted something way smaller for my deck for only 1-2 people.Requirement had to be charcoal (of course).I searched around the market for a while and found that Weber and several other manufactures had mini charcoal grills. The issue was that most of them were low to the ground. They were all selling for $20-$30 depending on the brand.I then discovered the Char-Griller Patio Pro.After seeing the build material (cast iron) and the sturdiness of the support frame in which the cooking box sat on top of, I knew this was the product that would meet my expectations.

Delivery:
I ordered the product from Amazon and received it within ~ 4 days. The correct package arrived on time and undamaged, so the ordering experience was perfect.I arrived from work around 7 pm and saw the package at my doorstep and I was excited to grill that night. However, I had read the review of other customers who ordered this grill and I knew assembly was going to be a nightmare.Sure enough, assembling the grill was absolute HELL!!Needless to say, I was not able to grill the day the product arrived.

Assembly:
The grill will arrive with all the pieces for it within the actual grill box.Everything is sticky as it has been coated with oil from the factory, so make sure you assemble your grill in the proper location. The grill has numerous screws and mini pieces which are not clearly identified at all in the instruction manual. The instruction manual is absolutely worthless as its measurements for the pieces are inaccurate and in my particular case, I had less pieces that what the manual said I needed, yet I still assembled the grill without running out of pieces.I will spare you the agonizing details of my assembly experience and summarize it as:Assembling the grill is going to be the ONLY bad experience in owning this product.

USAGE:
With that said, the actual functionality of this grill is EXCELLENT.It is PERFECT for its intended cause...cooking for 1-2 hungry men, or 1-4 average people. The grate is made out of cast iron and requires to be initially coated in vegetable oil over 300 degree fire for 2 hrs (according to the manual).I recommend doing what I did to get the grill ready for use...in order to burn off all the factory oils and "crap," I just filled it to the rim with charcoal and left it to burn...when I came back, all the oil's, crap, and "new stink" disappeared and the cast iron grates were seasoned and ready for use.

The first time I grilled was excellent. The air ventilation system allows for even heat distribution so you can control your fire.Another excellent feature of this product is the cast iron grates...they get so hot and leave an awesome grill mark on your meat...something I could never get with the grate on my Weber.

In addition, the little tray on the side is a HUGE convenience factor when cooking. You can actually put pretty heavy things on it without worrying it will break.During assembly, when I felt the wood material that was used for the tray, I was extremely concerned because I thought when the grill would get hot, they would burn away.So far, this has not been the case, however, time will tell how long they last. But at the present moment, they are perfect. Not shown in Amazon's picture for this product is three little hooks that you have to manually screw into your tray, which will allow you to hang your cooking tools...another cool convenience factor.

Cleaning:
Cleaning is pretty easy too as the charcoal tray box easily slides out and you just dump the ashes into a trash bag.

Overall quality is excellent and I am pleased that the grill does not wobble. In my opinion, aside from the assembly experience, you will not find a better mini charcoal grill with all the features that this grill has [...].

Weber 121020 Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill Review

Weber 121020 Go-Anywhere Charcoal GrillMy first "Go-Anywhere Weber Grill," purchased in 1984, sold me on design and efficiency. After cooking my dinner, I'd shut the side and top air vents thus suffocating the fire.I found I could get two, three, and sometimes four meals from a single load of charcoal (depending on cooking times). And, on picnics, the fire would be out and the grill "touchable" after about 15 minutes. The grill is large enough to handle most meals for say 6 to 8 persons and even small (4-6 lb) chickens, but if you're cooking turkey, this isn't the grill for you.I'm now on my second "G-A" grill, as the first bounced around the world with me in Korea, Yemen, China, and the U.S. until the movers crushed it in 1993.Ended up contacting Weber directly when I couldn't find a replacement locally, and number 2 is in good shape after 8 years of rigorous use.

Weber 751001 22.5-Inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill, Black Review

Weber 751001 22.5 inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill, BlackYou're probalby thinking that there's no reason to update the 10-year-old Weber you've got in your back yard.Well, turns out Weber has made some smart improvements over the years-- the new "gold" model is worth the upgrade.
The ash-catcher is super, the one-touch vent system is abig improvement (no more knocking each vent with a trowel), the plastichandles stay cooler... you get the idea.Nothing dramatic, but goodprogress.
But here's the clincher: setting one of these up (takes about20 minutes, even if you make a mistake or two) just makes you feel likeyou're in heaven. It's summer embodied.People rhapsodize about the newcar small... well, fughettaboutit. The look of a shiny new grill thatyou've assembled yourself is about as good as it gets.
Highlyrecommended accessory: the charcoal companion.Put your lighter fluid (oryour MatchLight) away and use this instead-- it works flawlessly, and it'sbetter for theenvironment.

Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Review

Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney StarterI'm a big food Network fan and my favorite guy is Alton. What I saw on one of his shows was the most awesome advice for this device. Take ONE, that's right, ONE piece of newspaper and sprinkle a few drops of vegetable oil on it; then put it under your chimney starter (outdoors, please, eggman if you're reading this) and fire it up with a full can of any kind of charcoal. You won't believe how well this works. One more thing; DO NOT set a chimney starter on a gravel driveway when you start it. For some reason, the heat transfers much easier through gravel than concrete. Just put the thing on your grill grate and wait for 20 minutes. You'll have smokin' hot coals that will be almost too hot for smokin' food. I even saw Alton searing tuna on top of one of these things.

Weber's chimney starter makes starting your charcoal a snap.It also cuts down the amount of time it takes for the coals to get ready.Just load up our extra large cannister full of coals, light up a fire starter or crinkled up newspaper, and set the cannister over the flame. In a matter of minutes the coals will be red hot.Who ever thought it could be so easy?

Weber 741001 22.5-Inch One-Touch Silver Kettle Grill, Black Review

Weber 741001 22.5 inch One-Touch Silver Kettle Grill, BlackI bought myself this grill for Christmas when nobody else got it for me, and now I've had it almost three months and have used it quite a few times.I bought it based on the Amazon recommendations, and the recommendation of FoodTV host Alton Brown in his book, GEAR FOR THE KITCHEN.Also, in perusing the internet, I found the "Blue's BBQ" web site from Australia. One reader asks, "How did the Weber become the icon for the Australian BBQ?"Blue had to disappoint the reader by informing her that the Weber is actually American. But if it has that kind of reputation in Australia, is must be good.

Judging from the reviews here, I'll have to wait 20 years to see how it holds up.It does live on my back porch, but with the Weber cover.

It is fairly easy to assemble, and in my humble engineering opinion, seems well-made and designed with few exceptions. The Silver model has an ash catch-pan hung between the legs. The pan sits on top of spring clips clipped to the leg. After how well everything else went together, this seemed really cheesy to me.If you're a prefectionist, you'll go nuts trying to level the pan.

I guess that the "one touch cleaning" feature is the vanes on the bottom that also act to adjust the temperature in the grill by adjusting the airflow. If you swish them back and forth, opened and closed, it'll push some ash through the vent in the bottom. The problem is that the vanes themselves are wide and flat, and half of the ash just rides back and forth on them.I think Weber overstates this "one touch cleaning" feature.

The vanes closely fit the bottom shape of the grill when assembled, but after a couple of uses, one warped.I don't know if this is from heat, or something I lodged under it.I had to disassemble the vanes, and bend the offending blade a bit, and it's been perfect since.

I am a bit disappointed in some of the accessories, like the tool rack and little side table. They hang on the edge of the grill, and compromise the otherwise pretty good seal between the lid and grill. They also sell a lid rack, but note that the lid does comes with a hook in it so you can hang it on the edge of the grill, although it is certainly not as easy as using the optional rack.

Based on recommendations here, I got the 22" (larger) model.I can't disagree with that.Unless you just don't have the extra 4" of storage space or REALLY need a good grill, but just don't have the money, get the bigger one.It doesn't use that much more charcoal.

The other thing I scratched my head over was whether to get the Silver or Gold model. The differences were not completely clear to me until I actually got the grill.First, the Gold model adds a catch can that fits closely to the bottom of the grill instead of the pan I complained about. That would be nice.Maybe when you're grilling, hot specks of charcoal won't fall out the bottom and burn your legs, and if you grill somewhere where you don't want a lot of ash, this might be worthwhile. But the Gold is almost twice the price of the Silver, and I had a hard time justifying the additional cost.

The other feature added by the Gold is a grate with folding sides to allow you to add more charcoal when doing a long roast.A handy feature for sure, if you're cooking includes that, but I found those replacement Weber grates locally for twelve dollars, so wouldn't pay for the Gold model to get them.

And I guess that's another advantage of the Webers in general: They're so popular, replacement parts are easily found locally.Sometimes, I long for the built-in side table of the Platinum, but that's a lot of money.

The grill came with a small cookbook that has proved useful.I don't know getting burgers and steaks done right has been such a hit or miss, trial and error, proposition that most people make it out to be.You look up in the little book, "Beef, 1-1/2 in thick, well-done (I know, Alton Brown wouldn't like me), 10 minutes first side, 9 minutes second side" and they come out perfectly.

DEFINITELY pick up a Weber charcoal chimney if you don't have one yet. It's the best way by far to start the grill - no kabooms, no fumes, no smell, no dangerous fluids stored in your house, and a good use for Florida Today newspaper. If you want to try something different, pick up the book AMERICAN PIE by Peter Reinhert and try the grilled pizza.

Weber 10020 Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill, Black Review

Weber 10020 Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill, BlackThough this is a portable grill, it is terrific for at home use if you're single, or have a small balcony apartment. It takes very little space, and is easy to maneuver when cleaning time comes.
I've used this gem for years. My apartments, on the whole, mandated the simplicity and efficiency offered up by the Smokey Joe.
A great feature is the rounded top. This enables better smoking, as air and smoke circulates more fluidly.
The downsides:
The legs aren't as sturdy as they could be. Given time, a bit of bumping around and general abuse, and the screwed on legs might turn askew. If you notice this while the grill is hot, you've a problem. The solution is to keep them tight during non-use.
The air intake at the bottom gets clogged with ashes. A key to good charcoal grilling is the manipulation of air flow. The intake might be open, but stopped up. If you are diligent to clean the ahes, you'll be OK.
Because the grill is so close to the ground, you need to be careful. Unlike most of Weber's grill, this one os also apt to getting kicked over, run into by dogs, cars and children.
I fully recommend Weber's Smokey Joe. Now, I'm hungry. Time to stir the coals and pop on a few brats.
Anthony Trendl
